Soccer Coaching Drills

Imagine a scenario where 50% of the soccer coaching drills should adopt development of trapping skills as their focal point. You won’t take it seriously. But interestingly, researchers say that trapping, besides dribbling and passing is mainly responsible for consistently winning matches.

The ability to capture the ball and retain it for a considerable time is called trapping. Such soccer exercises allow players to use thighs, feet and chest in doing so.

It is imperative that your players know how to trap the ball. Failing to do so would mean that they can never be in command of the game since this is imperative. Below mentioned methods can be used to teach trapping skills to the players.

Engaging the feet: Firstly, train your players in using their feet to deal with the ball which is a basic skill. Particularly in kids soccer drills, teach the kids to use inside of their foot. The biggest reason for this is that the inside area of the foot is broad and is most helpful in tackling the ball.

Soccer Drills

In soccer coaching drills, players can be taught to use the instep or crown of the foot along with entire foot when the players are senior and established. Train your players to adopt the strategy to apply ankle or shin to catch hold of the ball when it is jumping a lot.

Thigh Movement: Speedy and bouncy ball can be controlled by simply using the thigh. Instruct the players to get in front of the ball, stand on one feet and rise the other thigh to stop the ball. Practice the skill of retaining the ball with you after it meets your thigh by learning to bring down your knee so the will plunge and settle close to you.

Master the skill of capturing the ball using the knee and then dropping the knee so the ball plunges down and stays within range by intensively working on this exercise.

Use the Chest: Similar to the role of a thigh, the chest also plays an important part in trapping the ball that is high up in the air. Players should be positioned in front of the ball to face it but using the energy through their chest to stop it. When they do so, the ball will instantly loose its speed and easily get down to the feet.

However, in the soccer training drills, it is important to realize that young players should not be exposed a lot to this technique. When they try to tackle the ball using the chest, it is their normal tendency to use their hands. This practice could lead to a problem by kids getting comfortable using their hands to deal with the ball.

Now its time to start putting these soccer coaching drills into action. Make the players practice these more and more. You could get an easy access to vast amount of tips by subscribing to our youth soccer coaching community.

Soccer Scholarships – 5 Tips to Beat Out the Competition

Posted by soccer dadz | Champions League | Thursday 14 January 2010 11:18 AM

Soccer scholarships are getting harder to get every season. In that soccer continues to grow in popularity each year, there is more competition for the short number of scholarships for NCAA, NAIA further NJCAA colleges and universities. The good news is, if you are willing to put in as much or more effort towards your recruiting and scholarship search, as you do on the field, then you can guarantee your self success.

Here are 5 tips to separate yourself from the competition:

1. Olympic Development Program (ODP) Each state and region has an Olympic development program for soccer. Most athletes are offered soccer scholarships from these teams. While you also must play on your high school team, the competition has become so intense that college coaches almost exclusively recruit from these leagues.
2. Academic Grades I know you must hear this everywhere but it can not be emphasized enough. Just having a GPA below 3.0, excludes yourself from being recruited at almost 50% of NCAA schools. Gone are the days when an athlete could just meet minimum NCAA academic standards. You must also meet minimum admissions standards for the college. Do not lose out to another athlete because of your grades. There is no excuse anymore for this one.
3. Athletic Maturity Coaches want a actor that responsibility leaning up to the pressure of the collegiate game. Do you lose your head when your team loses or gets scored on? Do you change your style of play, get weaker as the match goes on? Coaches are watching and you must be able to maintain your performance under pressure and losing situations.
4. Athletic Range Are you able and out-and-out to play more than solo position? Have you already peaked in high school or would you get better under a collegiate soccer program’s coaching and resources? Coaches desire players who are willing to reach whatever the team needs. They also want players who can continue to improve and grow as a player throughout their college playing career.
5. Financial Ability Is your family willing to pay tuition combined with athletic aid from a college? Soccer is a “equivalency” sport in the NCAA. Most scholarships are only partial and seldom do we see actual full-rides for soccer. Communicate to the coach that you are willing and able to pay to go to college here to cover the rest of the tuition. Coaches do not want to haggle or waste time with athletes who are not serious about attending if they do not get a full-ride.

Use these five tips to start developing your recruiting plan. With the number of high school soccer players and increasing number of foreign students also getting recruiting for soccer scholarships, you need to start early and start fast. A solid plan can help you overcome obstacles to your scholarship search and place you above the competition.

A Variety Of Top British Sporting Events

Posted by soccer dadz | ARTICLES, Recreation and Sports: Soccer | Wednesday 13 January 2010 8:08 AM

I will be writing about some of the most famous sporting events on the English calender. I am not personally involved in the world of professional sport, unfortunately.

I actually work on various projects to do cheaper mobile calls, how to stop stuttering therapy and also helping people with purchasing quality composite doors.

I am currently looking forward to the Fifa World Cup and have just enjoyed England’s win in the Ashes. These are sporting events which are not played on an annual basis but are every four years in respect of the football world cup and normally every two years for the ashes series.

Horse racing has two massive sporting events in its yearly calender, the Grand National and the Derby. The Grand National has to be my favourite out of these two as it is normally packed full of incidents as it is a jumping race and there is much more of a chance for the outsiders in the race.

The Derby is also famous throughout the world and is a flat race. This race which is run over the Epsom downs racecourse and features some of the best racehorses from around the world.

The FA Cup of football is one of my favourite sporting events of the year. Some people may argue that it has lost some of its glamour in recent years but I would have to disagree.

The British Grand Prix in formula one is another great event from the British sporting calender. This out of all the events that I am going to write about is probably my least favourite, but is still worth a watch even for someone like myself who is not exactly a motor racing fan.

The Wimbledon Tennis Championships are always of interest to somebody like myself as I love to not only watch this sport but I also love to play the odd game of tennis as well.

In golf there is the British Open. This tournament is not as exciting as The Ryder Cup which takes place every two years but it is still very exciting to watch and there is always a live prospect of a British winner. Watch out for a young golfer called Luke Donald over the next few years as I think he is due some big tournament victories.

HOW ATHLETES FAIL AT BUILDING THEIR VERTICAL JUMP

Posted by soccer boss | Uncategorized | Sunday 10 January 2010 12:46 PM

Increasing vertical jump is something virtually anyone can achieve. But like so many other things in life that require focus and effort, many athletes take a pass when it comes to developing their jumping skills.

Some hide behind the excuse that it just is not in their genes to be a leaper. And compared to those who come by their hops naturally, that is true. But that is where the comparison starts, not where it ends.

For all practical purposes, anyone can grow their jump reach and can do so by very impressive numbers. In fact, it is those who are born big jumpers who, although they can increase their hops as well, do not have as much room for improvement as do average jumpers. So much for the genetic excuse.

There are also those who will say they gave it a try and after all their hard work, their jump reach only grew an inch or two. In other words, the results did not merit the sweat equity required.

Actually, there is a grain of truth in that point. And in almost all cases there is a good reason for such outcomes. No matter how hard one works, when the effort is focused on only one or maybe two jump development techniques, the results will be minimal and often discouraging.

The point is that there are a significant number of factors that make up our jumping capability. Without addressing all of them, results will be diminished. Big outcomes are the result of very well rounded and complete jump development training.

Of course there are those who want big hops but are not willing to do the work required to make that happen. Nothing can be done for them. There is no magic pill. There are no shortcuts. To attain a worthwhile goal requires knowing what to do and how to do it along with the drive and determination to get the work done. Pure and simple.

Probably the most common reason for failing to really improve vertical jump boils down to going about it haphazardly. Picking up an idea from another athlete or working under the direction of a well meaning coach who lacks the necessary expertise achieves scatter shot results at best. Lots of people have good ideas as well as good intentions. Experts have depth of knowledge and years of experience specializing in this one area. That is far more valuable than are good intentions.

Some small increase in jump reach can be achieved any number of ways. Weight lifting for one. Just plain repetitive jumping for another. Utilizing weight vests, weight belts and ankle weights can work. Jumping rope is another helpful exercise. And the list goes one.

But picking and choosing as if at a lunch buffet will not lead to big increases in vertical jump. What is required is a comprehensive, coordinated program that includes all of the necessary factors to grow a jump reach by ten inches or more. That just does not happen via a hit or miss routine. Eye popping increases call for much more.

Finally, there are those who choose to rely on gimmicks. Jump shoes come to mind. Or jumping up from a platform while strapped to it. Will such things help? To some degree yes, virtually anything that requires the user to jump will have some value. But gimmicks are not the path to big outcomes that greatly enhance competitive performance. That requires real and coordinated training.

There are other reasons people fail at this as well. However, what is important to understand is what it takes to achieve major success that delivers the athlete to an entirely new peak of performance.

Although the answer is easy, the work is hard. Success come from identifying and engaging in a tested, proved, comprehensive jump training system that includes the expert guidance to generate and coordinate total jump development.

Find it, recognize it, understand it and, most importantly, do it. See you up there on the next level.

Who Was The Best Quarterback To Ever Play In The NFL?

Posted by soccer boss | Uncategorized | Saturday 9 January 2010 11:04 AM

Whenever this topic comes up in a discussion there are plenty of different opinions that come in to play. Every one seems to have their favorite. The list of names is Limitless when it comes down to who the best quarter back of all time is. I have my own opinion also so before we can get down to who the best actually is we should first think of who the top five are at least.

The top five quarter backs of all time in the NFL in my opinion goes in this order:Dan Marino, Fran Tarkenton, John Elway, Terry Bradshaw, and Archie Manning. These are my favorite NFL quarter backs of all time.

Of these five quarterbacks my all time favorite is the underrated New Orleans Saints quarterback Archie Manning. Not only did he have one of the greatest careers as quarterback in the NFL ever, but he also raised two of the best quarterbacks of all time Peyton and Eli Manning. That alone should have reserved him a spot in the NFL’s hall of fame.

If that is not enough he was the only quarterback of those listed above besides maybe Dan Marino that never had a good team to play with. Way before fans were searching for new places to buy New Orleans Saints merchandise this guy was the teams real live mascot. He was in the trenches playing with the worst offensive line that ever existed. He was sacked more time than any other quarterback in a single season. At one point I bet he really wanted to give up or quit but he didn’t. He never complained much, he just pressed on with the same team for ten long and very hard years.

I am frequent visitor of many sites that keep me up to date on New Orleans Saints news, one such site is http://neworleanssaintsmerchandise.net. The last time I was at this site I read an article that was about the way people who buy New Orleans Saints jerseys have began to buy more and more retro style jerseys. Of all the retro jerseys they bought the most popular has been the Archie Manning jersey. That says a whole lot to me about the player that Archie was.

So how could he have been the best Quarter back of all time yet never have won a Super Bowl? Well I am sorry to inform you but Dan Marino, who is undoubtedly one of the best quarterbacks to ever play football in the NFL’s history also never won a Super Bowl in his long career. Archie Manning was in fact the man that epitomized what an NFL quarterback was supposed to be. He was tough and gritty, a real hard nosed guy. His legacy is determination to win regardless of the circumstances and can be seen in his sons Eli and Peyton every week to this very day.

Kettlebell Conditioning: A Shortcut To Football Success

Posted by soccer boss | Uncategorized | Friday 8 January 2010 10:03 PM

These days, kettlebell training is grabbing a toehold in the off-season conditioning routines of most major sports. Football is no exception: players are always looking for new ways to maintain their cardio conditioning without expending so much energy that they’re unable to work on sports-specific skills.

Since skill training is far and away more important than general purpose fitness training (at least once adequate fitness levels are achieved), it stands to reason that any workout methodology which demands too much time at the expense of skill training and practice is counterproductive.

Kettlebells and Football

It’s a demanding sport. All the skill training in the world won’t do players any good if their conditioning isn’t up to par. Picture a soccer player winded and out of breath as he tries to keep up with teammates and opponents who are in better shape. It’s not a pretty sight.

What kettlebells offer that other training methodologies is: simplicity and scalability.

When you grab a kettlebell handle, you are working out with an implement that hasn’t changed in more than a century. It’s like a mousetrap — impossible to make it any better.

The simplicity offered by this sort of training is one of the major benefits. It does not take very long to get it, and when you do, you immediately know whether you’re making progress or backsliding. There is no gray area of confusion.

When you adopt this style of working out, it is you against the clock. There is no other factor responsible for your failure or success. The inherent scalability of kettlebell training is its other major benefit.

Kettlebells are here to stay

With the legions of kettlebell athletes who have tried this style of training and stuck with it, there is no doubt that it will be here tomorrow. As refinements appear, it only gets better. When others talk about kettlebell versus dumbbell or something similar, they’re making a good point but missing the big picture. It’s up to each and every one of us to figure out what works the best for our personal situation and make it our own.

Since the training is effective, the learning curve is low, and the results are undeniable, it is only a matter of time before it becomes familiar to the general public instead of a sub-set of fitness professionals as is the current case.

Try it out, you will like the results

Whether you are a staunch traditionalist who only works out in so-called functional ways, or an open-minded modernist who tries each and every fitness fad that comes along, kettlebell training will appeal to your core beliefs. It is the best of both worlds!

When you do a casual cost/benefit analysis of kettlebell training as compared to more familiar workout methods, you’ll come to the inescapable conclusion that this is not only something you should look into, but something you must adopt as quickly as possible if you want to remain competitive in your sport.

Buying Manchester United Football Tickets Online: Safe?

Posted by soccer dadz | ARTICLES, Recreation and Sports: Soccer | Monday 4 January 2010 11:52 AM

Purchasing Manchester United football tickets online is actually a pretty safe way to get them, but there are scammers out there and it is important to be aware of how they operate. Should you want genuine Manchester United Football tickets, then you need to find a business selling them online that is tried and trusted. It is best to read customer reviews prior to making a purchase. You have to be careful of two things: Not giving your money to a site which is likely to steal your details, and finding a vendor which delivers quickly. Also ascertain if the review you are reading is legitimate and not simply written up by the vendor themselves. If you see a hyperlink at the bottom of the review, that can help determine whether it is true or paid for.

Customers don’t usually have a reason to post a link to the very product they are reviewing and a  legitimate customer reviewing a product is of that kind. Advertisers have found a new way to advertise since most email spam blockers today block their ads, and so they turn to reviews. If a review is link free it is more than likely trustworthy. Though buying tickets on eBay can often get you cheaper prices, it is probably a good idea to buy tickets from established websites that specialize in tickets alone. There can be issues with EBay sellers not sending tickets on time, or perhaps they will neglect to send them all together. But if you decide to purchase this way make sure you read their feedback to get a better idea of how professional they are and most people you do business with on eBay are honest.

Before you type in ANY purchasing information is the another way to avoid being scammed is to make sure the checkout page is encrypted. This is a feature not many people look for when checking out, but the importance of it can not be understated. How do you know if a website utilizes ecryption? At the beginning of a website address you will usually see “HTTP”. Web pages which are encrypted contain “HTTPS” in their address, not the usual “HTTP”. It is always a good idea to make sure the page is encrypted because even if a company is completely honest but does not use encryption, it does not show a lot of respect for the customers’ personal information. If you find an online ticket vendor that uses encryption and has good reviews, then this must be a site worth buying from.

These guidelines are important to follow in order to avoid being scammed, but it is also important to go with your gut. If something about a vendor does not seem quite right, do not purchase anything from them. If something seems off then there is a good chance something is. Doing some research will prove invaluable in fending off scam artists. Finally, you need to find the one which costs the least. You can buy with confidence the next time you shop on the web if you remember the information presented in this article.

Manchester United To Target Hamsik Over The Summer

Posted by soccer dadz | ARTICLES, Recreation and Sports: Soccer | Saturday 2 January 2010 1:35 AM

It appears that Marek Hamsik has lined up a £25m transfer bid to move to Manchester United come January.

The fact that Ryan Giggs is beginning to age, and the fact that veteran midfielder Paul Scholes will only have his name on old soccer memorabilia soon has surely brought to Alex Fergusons attention that some expensive midfielders are required to boost the team.

With interest from Liverpool and Chelsea as well, the signing of Hamsik would add attacking ability to Manchester United’s midfield. Snapped up by Brescia after proving his skill with Slovan Bratislava. Transferring to Napoli for 5.5m Euros after dominating the midfield at Brescia scoring 10 goals from the midfield.

Since 2007, Hamsik’s efforts in Serie A have established him as one of the best midfielders in the world. Managing to score 25 goals in 81 games Hamsik’s form has been some of the best in the league. The Slovakian midfielder has quickly been named the best midfielder in Serie A by experts throughout Italy after his two goals against Juventus.

Hamsik’s form for Slovakia has been equally impressive. Expected to be one of the major stars of the upcoming World Cup his efforts might put him down into soccer history forever.

Riccardo Bigon however has stated over the last few weeks that they have no intention of selling the player.

“Manchester United are after Hamsik? If we rejected the rumours regarding a friend like [Carlo] Ancelotti and his Chelsea, it is obvious we also reject these rumours.”

These comments have since been substantiated by Napoli chairman Aurielo De Laurentiis who confirmed:

“Many clubs have requested Hamsik, it’s true, but he will stay with us for the long-term”

Whether this stance will soften in the summer, when United hope to make their move, remains to be seen. Napoli are not a particularly wealthy club and despite the chairman’s insistence that Hamsik is not for sale, it remains to be seen that if a firm offer was on the table that matched their valuation, whether they would be tempted into selling.

Chelsea’s desperation to buy players may push any deals between the two clubs away. Roman Abramovich has purportedly given manager Carlo Ancelotti the green light to make a £25m move for the player so they might beat Manchester United to the punch
